The Ringerike style derives directly from the Mammen style, simplifying the basic structure of the knotwork, giving way to that simplification that will then develop into the Urnes style and, at the same time, greatly increasing the decorative part.
It develops for less than a century in Scandinavia starting from the year 1000 and is the only one of the Viking styles of art that does not owe its name to a particular find but rather to a geographical area, Ringerike in fact, a little north of Oslo, where the sandstone of which many of the runic are made.
