Freia originally belonged to the Vanir lineage, after the peace that ended the conflict between Vanir and the Æsir, Freia went to live among the latter.
Daughter of Njörðr, sister of Freyr, wife of Óðr, and mother of two girls, Hnoss and vangar (names synonymous with "treasure"), she lives in the Sessrúmnir room "space for seats" (perhaps an allusion to the ship). She stands in the middle of the Fólkvangr "people's camp" or "battlefield".
She there she rides every day in the battlefields and she is entitled to the half of the fallen that she will lead into battle during Ragnarǫk (the other half belongs to Odin).
Her function is undoubtedly linked to fertility, she Freia is the goddess of love, fertility and lust. Loki even defines her as a nymphomaniac, always ready to satisfy her cravings with any type of partner, which is why she is linked to prolific or sensual animals such as goats, sows and females, but her animals are mainly cats: she owns a wagon pulled by two of them, probably two Norse forests.
Her links with cats is also due to the magical qualities of these animals, Freyja is in fact a teacher of magic, an art that she teaches to the gods and to which obscene practices are also linked.
This goddess had many appellations and the cult of her is still witnessed today by numerous toponyms that allude to the places where she was venerated and is even found in the root of the name Friday, holy day in Freia.
To design this tattoo I was inspired by a pendant found in Tuna, Sweden, and probably depicting a Valkyrie, which you can see by scrolling through the photos.
